About N. Palm Beaches

Country club communities abound in Florida, as you might expect in a state where you can play golf 365 days a year.

This type of lifestyle — where you're not just buying a house, but buying into an elite enclave rich in amenities that is centered around golf — is appealing to many. You drive to the course in your golf cart, play 18 holes, have a drink with friends, then return to the club with the family for dinner.

Palm Beach Gardens golfMany moving to these communities are attracted not only by the spectacular grounds and beautiful homes, but by the security of a gated community. It enables you to relax and enjoy the good life without worry at home or away.

Some of the most luxurious of these private communities are on the ocean or the Intracoastal Waterway, enabling golfers who are also boaters or beachcombers to have the best of all Florida worlds.

But not all golfers share the same dreams about country club living. Some move to golf courses to retire -- the further from the bright lights of the big city the better -- while others want to live within an easy drive of the arts, shopping, professional sports and nightlife of a major metropolitan area.

Jupiter golf estateFlorida, fortunately, has luxury country club communities for all. The biggest challenge is selecting the right one for you. Like playing the game of golf itself, there is more to buying a Florida luxury golf course estate than meets the eye.

Since you are buying into a lifestyle as well as purchasing a luxury home, you will want to explore what the country club community you are considering offers. Does the tennis complex have a USTA teaching professional? Does the fitness center have personal trainers and nutritionists available? Does the community offer personal concierge, housekeeping, and chef services?

Last but not least, there is the luxury estate you are considering -- and the question of what exactly constitutes your property. While many prospective homebuyers tend to view the golf course as a natural extension of their backyard, the reality may turn out to be quite different. The vista may be spectacular, but be sure you think through the implications -- from a standpoint of noise, in-season cart-traffic, and even errant golf balls -- of where the house sits on the course.

A luxury home in a country club community can be a dream place to live and a great investment. But you -- and your Realtor -- need to do the homework to insure you make the right choice.
